Parents/Guardians, 

This article was sent to me and has some great information regarding the new energy drink craze.  It is important for our children to fully understand the ramifications of caffeine and its affects on their bodies.  There is a growing amount of students enjoying these in place of soda which is concerning because they are drinking multiple servings.  Please take a moment to read this article and share with your child your thoughts on the issues.

MRSA- Donation Request

In attempts to be overly proactive at MWMS, we are accepting donations to homeroom classes of Clorox Formula 409 Antibacterial All Purpose Cleaner or Lysol Brand Disinfectant Spray for Kitchens and clean rags to assist teachers in multiple surface wiping throughout the school day as a preventative measure to protect students and staff from the spread of MRSA (not currently reported at MWMS).  The district custodial staff will continue to use approved cleaning materials proven effective in preventing the spread of MRSA in daily cleaning of the facility and classrooms.  For more information see the attached information sheets.  Discuss these items with your child as we present factual information and reminders of good hygiene which will help not only with the MRSA prevention but also prevention of bacteria and viruses as we enter the winter cold/flu season.  Healthier students and staff means better learning!  Thank you for your support. Please remind your child of the following:

1. Reminder that no clothing article worn on campus should have ANY writings, logo, or trademarks larger than 2”X2”.  Wearing these items may lead to discipline consequences for repeated offenses.
2. This Wednesday, November 7^th is a LATE START time 10:30am.  Remember busses will come later on this day.
3. Protect yourself from MRSA.  Preventing Methicillan Resistant Staphylococus Aureus (MRSA) tips:
   1. Have good hygience practices which means wash your hands, frequently or use 60% alcohol-based hand sanitizers (parents send mini bottles with your students for use throughout the day).
   2. Cover any wounds with clean, dry bandages sealed on all four sides.
   3. Avoid contact with anyone else’s skin infections.  Report skin infections to parents/nurses.
   4. Shower after sports practices/matches.

• Food Drive ends this week, however we will accept food in the office until Thanksgiving and are doing a Turkey drive for anyone interested in donating. All food benefits Maricopa families in need.

• NO late start this week. NEXT LATE START NOV 7th.

  • Nov 5th Band Concert Nov 7th Native New Yorker Day, mention MWMS and we receive 20% of the ticket.

10/26 is our Pirate Dance 5-8pm. 

 

Monday, October 29^th is our next Movie Night:  The Mummy will be our showcase that evening at 7pm.  Popcorn and concessions will be available, the movie is free.

 

NO Late Start Oct 31^st, this has been changed to Nov 7^th.

 

October 31^st Halloween – costumes are NOT allowed to be worn to school.

 

8^th grade parents – November 1^st is our first Teen Screen.  Your child should have already brought a letter to you regarding this optional program.  For more information, call Mr. Morene 568-7100 X 3013.

 

10/30 and 10/31 – Mrs. Rizzo’s 8^th grade students will be taking the AZTLA technology pretest.
